When you first launch the app, navigate to Models & Index (the tune icon). Download the compact embedding model (~40 MB) and the chat model (~400 MB to 1.1 GB). Once downloaded, you can start asking Scripture questions immediately.

Yes. After the one-time model downloads are completed, you can turn off Wi-Fi or Cellular Data (or enable Airplane Mode) and the app will continue to search the Douay-Rheims Bible and answer queries with full citation verification.

Building the index creates local HNSW vector embeddings for all ~37,000 Douay-Rheims Bible verses using your downloaded embedding model. This enables deep semantic search. If you choose not to build the vector index, fast lexical/keyword search is always available.

Model downloads require a stable internet connection. If a download stalls, check that your device has enough free storage space (~1.5 GB recommended) and retry the download over a steady Wi-Fi network.

For mobile devices (iOS & Android), the app automatically selects optimized compact models (such as Qwen 0.5B / 1.5B quantized GGUFs) that balance fast on-device inference with low RAM consumption.

Because Ask Bible stores all data locally in app-private storage, you can reset everything at any time by going to your device's Settings > Apps > Ask Bible > Clear Storage / Clear Data, or by deleting and reinstalling the app.
