1. Purpose of the Application

Ask Bible is designed as an on-device personal study companion for exploring and reflecting upon Sacred Scripture using the historic Catholic Douay-Rheims Bible (1582 Douay / 1609 Rheims text, including deuterocanonical books).

The software pairs a local retrieval engine with an on-device large language model (LLM) to assist readers in locating verses and reading citations within their biblical context.

2. Nature of Artificial Intelligence & Important Disclaimers

Not a Substitute for Pastoral Care or Spiritual Guidance

Ask Bible is a computational software program, not a human priest, pastoral counselor, ecclesiastical authority, confessor, therapist, doctor, or legal advisor.

Sacraments & Confession: The application cannot administer the Sacrament of Reconciliation, pronounce sacramental absolution, grant marriage dispensations, or settle canonical disputes.
Verification of References: While Ask Bible uses retrieval filters to ground responses in exact Douay-Rheims verses, AI models can produce unintended omissions or inaccuracies. Users are encouraged to verify citations by tapping the in-app Sources sheet to read full chapters.
Crisis Situations: If you are experiencing an acute personal emergency or mental health crisis, please reach out immediately to certified emergency responders or hotlines in your area.

3. Bible Text Attribution & License

The biblical text bundled in Ask Bible is the Original Douay-Rheims Bible (1582/1609), dedicated to the public domain (Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal).
